Hi guys! Happy new year and happy 1st birthday to my blog! With every new year comes new goals, ideas and if you’re a student, then a new semester! Whether or not you’re actively seeking a job, it’s always important to keep your resume up to date with information regarding anything that makes you stand out. If you can’t do it every time an accomplishment happens if your life, than at least do it at the end of every semester. If you’re a college student and looking for ways you can enhance your resume take a look at the following:

  1. Be absolutely positively sure your outline for your resume is organized, understandable and visually appealing. No one is going to take a look at a resume that looks like a five-year old put it together. If you don’t want to pay directly for a resume outline, Word also has templates to choose from.
  2. Know your skills and how they will relate to your (soon to be) job.
  3. Join clubs and organizations that you will actually enjoy and gain something from. Many clubs will do their best to work around your schedule and you will probably get a cool T-shirt for joining.
  4. See what certifications your college offers and the criteria for getting one. This is best to do when you’re signing up for classes or just as the semester is beginning. This shows prospective employers that you are actually passionate for your community, your career, etc.
  5. If you have a professor who you know is active in the community, ask them if they know of any good volunteer opportunities (they might even give you some extra credit, too– you’re welcome.)
  6. Good grades actually do pay off because you have the opportunity to receive great honors such as the Deans List or President’s List. This is an awesome thing to add to your resume because it shows the exceptional student you are.
  7. Create a LinkedIn account and go further in debt about your past jobs, courses, clubs, etc. You can also add any impressive presentations you have done for school and hopefully, it pertains to your future career. It is recommended that you put your URL onto your resume that way if prospective employers are interested in you, they can see additional information.
